So im walking past this other chinese shop yesterday and i see a mob at the entrance, i move closer to investigate further. I thought it was one of the main-mall's infamous mob justice cases. So i get there and i see the mob has gathered around a man, wearing a girlie outfit. The mob was hurling insults at said man dressed as a woman. It was pretty intense, he had took refuge in the store and was afraid to go out. This served in increasing the number of people gathered around the store looking to see this FREAK dressed like a woman complete with make-up. They definately wanted to embarass him, drive away his need to dress like a woman. like one of the dudes next to me was keen to point out, 'o loilwe bra e' (he is bewitched)....
I was sad, sadder than i have been in a long time since forever after this incident.
I was sad for many reasons:
(1) IT WAS A DUDE DRESSED LIKE A WOMAN!!!!!!!!!! , i always see them on TV but still...
(2) WE ARE A NATION OF HOMOPHOBES , ... its quite embarrasing that we are this backwards in life, so sad. One of the insults they hurled at him included 'Ke eng o batla go jewa ke banna ba bangwe?' (You want to get fucked by another man?').
(3) OUR INTOLERANCE AS A NATION IS NOT A GOOD BASE FOR OUR CHILDREN TO COPY. Ok so you think its disgusting for a dude to rock spendex and a thong, but to you have to act like an animal when you see him in public. We hardly have a say in how you dress why you feel you have to tell someone how to dress? Its a matter of choice really, its a lifestyle he chose just like you chose yours. Stop judging. The way my fellow batswana behaved that day was just animalistic to say the least.
What are we telling our kids though? Are we encouraging them to comform to society's view of normal rather than let them be who they are?
At the end of the day i felt very proud of the CROSS DRESSER DUDE, just how he left home dressed like that with that moustache was beyond me. He has courage, courage everyone should aspire to have. Im proud of him because he dresses in what he feels comfortable in and seems to not care what the world thinks of him, he has no problem with the world but the world has a problem with him. Society feels he is a freak because they do not understand him. so their only choice is to discriminate against him.
LIKE I SAID BEFORE LETS JUST ACCEPT THEM FOR WHO THEY ARE. WE ARE ALL HUMAN AND SHOULD BE TOLERANT OF ONE ANOTHER. OUR SURVIVAL AS THE SUPERIOR SPECIES DEPENDS ON IT.
